With Australia holding an unbeatable 4-0 lead in the One Day International series spread betting now becomes an interesting proposition. How inspired will the Aussies be to get a clean sweep? How inspired will the home side be to at least get some respectability back?
They are good questions and very important questions since they will determine the final outcome of the series. Online bookmakers have Australia at 9/4 to make a clean sweep of the series. 7-0 is a hard ask and bookies know it. They have an Aussie 6-1 victory as favourite at 11/10 with a 5-2 victory priced at 3/1.
Can the home side win the final three games for a 4-3 result? I doubt it somehow given their current form. Bookies have that result at 16/1 – a deserved price.
It is hard to fathom the home side. Sure, they are missing two of their better players in Andrew Flintoff and Kevin Pietersen but Stuart Broad and Andrew Strauss have stood up to the task well – they just need Strauss to get into the triple figures and for players around him to provide more support.
The Australians are playing well and following Lee’s last bag questions are again being asked as to why he didn’t play in the final test. The Aussies were left with badly bruised ego’s following the loss of the Ashes so a 4-0 whitewash was predictable. Whilst 7-0 is not beyond them I think some of the hunger will have dissipated now.
I expect the home side to bounce back today and win this fifth game and perhaps the sixth as well before the Aussies claim the seventh. You can now expect the Aussies to play around with side a bit – always a danger. Australia to win the series 5-2 at odds of 3/1 feels like a good bet to me.
